Music is one of the most powerful tools we have to support early childhood development and best of all, it’s fun, free, and easy to do at home!
From building language skills to encouraging movement and emotional expression, music can turn everyday moments into magical learning opportunities. Here are five simple, joyful ways to introduce music to your toddler.
1. Sing Together – All Day Long
Your voice is your toddler’s favourite instrument! Whether it’s nursery rhymes at bath time, lullabies at bedtime, or silly songs while getting dressed, singing makes daily routines feel special.
🎤 Top tip: Don’t worry about being pitch-perfect, toddlers don’t care! Try singing our fun original Tidy Up Rhumba while putting toys away. It turns tidying into a dance party.

2. Make DIY Instruments from Everyday Items
You don’t need a music store to get started. Turn kitchen objects into a band:
Wooden spoon + saucepan = drum
Plastic bottle + rice = shaker
Elastic bands over a tissue box = guitar!
🎨 Make it a craft session too: decorate the instruments with stickers or paint to make them truly theirs.
3. Create a Morning Music Ritual
Starting the day with music helps toddlers feel energised and ready. Play a cheerful song while brushing teeth or getting dressed, or have a quick 2-minute dance party before breakfast.
🌞 Our original song “Sunshine" is a perfect way to begin the day with rhythm and smiles.

4. Use Music to Support Transitions
Transition times (like getting ready, leaving the house, or bedtime) can be tricky, but music helps. Create little tunes to guide your toddler through daily changes.

These musical cues become comforting and familiar over time.
💛 Final Thoughts
Music isn’t about perfection. it’s about connection. Whether you’re clapping, singing, dancing, or just making joyful noise, every musical moment helps your toddler grow and feel loved.
